How does your battery chemistry affect the cost and longevity of your battery? The electric car industry has brought about a boom and economy of scale for the production of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate are now the norm for Solar Plus storage microgrid.
Early solar installations almost always used flooded lead-acid or sealed lead-acid batteries like those found in your car. These batteries, while inexpensive, seldom lasted more than five years. The “memory” on a lead-acid battery limited its use to 50% of its capacity and to stretch the battery life most off-grid users would try to use only the top 20% of capacity. So although the lead-acid battery is affordable, it needs to be replaced often.

Simpliphi
Simpliphi PHI-3.8-48-M 3.8kWh 48 Volt Lithium Ferro Phosphate Battery
The Simpliphi is our favorite battery of all the new lithium chemistries! This very stable non-toxic Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, with a ten-year or 10,000 cycle warranty, is completely scalable in parallel at the most common voltage (48Volts DC) of most residential off grid and hybrid inverters.
The virtual lack of battery memory means customers can come back year after year to add more storage and/or PV as their loads increase.
The Simpliphi battery offers a very high charge and discharge rate without any thermal issues. It comes standard with an exterior switch and internal charge protection.
Because of the lithium chemistry, the battery features the ability to use the entire range of voltage so that all of the battery capacity is available on the load. In combination with the Sol-Ark 8K series inverter this chemistry is a winner.

Composed of (16) UL listed prismatic 3.2V cells in series which have been tested at 7,000 deep discharge cycles to 80% DoD - fully charge and discharge this battery daily for over 15 years without issue. Reliable and rigorously tested, with a 99% operating efficiency.
